What do you do when you’re craving for both nasi lemak and pizza, but you’re not hungry enough to eat both? Proofer Bakery and Pizzeria has jumped on the bandwagon of local fusion food and launched their new Nasi lemak pizza.
The Nasi Lemak Pizza (S$3.90/quarter, S$7.40/half, S$13.90/full) is available in Heartland Mall, Tampines Mall, Tampines 1 and United Square.
When I first heard of this pizza, I was slightly sceptical about what it would taste like. I wasn’t sure how the iconic coconut rice flavour would work with pizza. Sadly, after trying a slice, the pizza didn’t have the slightest hint of coconut.
The sauce base of the pizza was the familiar sambal chilli that comes with the nasi lemak. The slightly sweet sauce wasn’t too spicy, so you can enjoy this Nasi Lemak Pizza even if you can’t really take spicy food.
This pizza had a thinner crust, which also means fewer carbs for all you calorie conscious people. Unfortunately, the taste of dried shrimp overpowered the toppings (sliced boiled eggs, peanuts, onions, and cheese).
I was glad that Proofer Bakery and Pizzeria did not forget about the peanuts. The raw salted peanuts on the Nasi Lemak Pizza helped to add a crunch to every bite.
This combination of nasi lemak and pizza was certainly fresh and intriguing. If you are looking for a snack, why not try this pizza?
