Our city is filled with fantastic burger joints, so we’re quite spoiled for choice. However, occasionally an option emerges which still makes heads turn and mouths drool. The Meat My Buns x Amber Ember collaboration was one such event. This kitchen takeover at Amber Ember by the chefs from Meat My Buns took place on 9 & 10 Sep 2022 at Serangoon.

This was volume two of the collab, with the first one happening in April 2022. The rave reviews I’d heard of Meat My Buns’ exclusive pop-ups across the city had me hyped for this one. The event required customers to reserve a table and pre-order their burgers for the evening a month in advance. I was lucky enough to snag one of its final few limited slots.

Meat My Buns x Amber Ember - the restaurant

It looked like a party was in full swing by the time we arrived. The turn-up was evidently huge, with most people milling around with cold drinks and happy smiles. We were even asked if we would like our tables to be shifted outside since the noise level made it hard to have any conversation. But we stuck to our seats as we wanted to take it all in.

The burgers arrived soon, looking simple but lip-smacking. Diners had the option to choose only amongst three burgers— Classic Beef Burger (S$15), BBQ Curry Pulled Pork Burger (S$15), and Creamy Scrambled Eggs Burger (S$10).

Meat My Buns x Amber Ember - The pork burger

My friend chose the BBQ Curry Pulled Pork Burger which looked interesting with its fine meat spilling out like yummy grass. It comes with pickled red cabbage, pulled pork that’s been brined for 12 hours, and BBQ curry sauce all in between two toasted brioche buns. The curry sauce flavour gelled great with the acidic taste of the red cabbage, with the soft pork being melt-in-your-mouth. I would’ve liked some more spice and curry-ness and it would’ve been perfect.

Meat My Buns x Amber Ember - scrambled eggs burger

I had picked the Creamy Scrambled Eggs Burger a month earlier and later regretted my choice as I wanted something meatier. But after tasting it, I was thankful for my gut instinct. I can go as far as to say it’s the best scrambled eggs burger I’ve ever had. Inside the toasted brioche buns, you will find caramelised onions, cheddar cheese, bacon strips, sriracha mayo, and of course, scrambled eggs. The cheese with the creamy eggs was in perfect harmony. Whenever I tasted the caramelised onions and crispy bacon bits in the middle, it always caught me by surprise and had me going “hmmm”.

Meat My Buns x Amber Ember - the burgersThere was also the choice of the Classic Beef Burger with crispy dill chips, house special sauce, a burger patty with a unique blend, and cheddar cheese. Meat My Buns only does pop-ups, with these three burgers being sold exclusively in all of them. Information about the events is released on social media platforms. So, keep an eye out for it to not miss the next one. I’m ready for volume three already.
