Do you know what’s not so commonly seen in Japanese tapas? Tempura! It would make perfect sense to add those fried snacks in. And what do you wash it down with? Sake, and lots of it! That’s precisely what Yamakita: Tempura x Tapas sets out to do.

Officially opened on 1 Nov 2022 at The Quayside along 60 Robertson Quay, Yamakita: Tempura x Tapas incorporates tempura dishes in tapas and offers over 60 bottles of different sake! Apart from having a sake bar, it even has its very own tempura bar!

If you’re here for the tempura, you can opt for its five different Tempura Courses. One of them is the Hoku Course (S$130++).

This option contains five seafood tempura as well as five vegetable tempura dishes. All sets include an appetizer, salad, kakiage (tempura patty of assorted vegetables on udon) and the Dessert of the Day.

Not a fan of tempura? Fret not, as there are teppanyaki options such as Yamakita Japanese Pizza (S$14++), Garlic Oyster (S$24++) and Wagyu Akami Bite-Sized Steak (S$48++). There are also rice and noodles options like the Kakiage Don (S$18++) and Kakiage Udon (S$18++).

This is one of the rare times that the drink menu is actually longer than its food counterpart. Before you get overwhelmed by the 60 bottles of different sake, Yamakita: Tempura x Tapas has a Sake Try-on Set (S$25++) which is three sake cups of your choosing from their extensive list of sake by the glass.

This includes Tenbu Junmai Ginjo, Tanaka Roku Jyugo Junmai and Hakkaisan Futsushu. Full bottles of sake are sold too, ranging from S$69++ to S$480++. The sakes are categorised by the type of flavour it brings such as Fruity Type and Matured Type. Your Japanese tapas experience just got a bit more interesting.
