On 12 May 2023, SS15’s wildly popular Uncle Soon Fried Rice launched their very first fried rice vending machine. This machine is located at Restaurant Mye Mye in Sungai Long, Selangor. In a Facebook post, they mentioned that the rice is guaranteed to come out warm, and that everything is made fresh daily.

When we think of vending machines, only 2 things come to mind: the ones you see in hospitals, always out of the drink and snack you want, and the ones in Japan then dispense food like cake in a can and instant noodles. Now, Malaysians can enjoy a hot meal in just minutes.

The machine offers 3 types of fried rice— Prawn Fried Rice (RM8), Char Siou Fried Rice (RM8), and Egg Fried Rice (RM6). According to the business owners, they are currently in their testing phase and welcome any feedback or comments.

This plan to launch a vending machine has been in the works for a while now, as they want to make their food more accessible to customers on-the-go.

A video posted a day after they started this new project shows them replenishing the machine with a new batch of fried rice after locals had wiped it clean. They thanked their customers for the continued support and interest, and even assured everyone that those buying from the machine don’t have to worry about the quality.

Their original outlet in SS15 is often frequented by students looking for delicious food at an affordable price. In fact, the owner stated that when it comes to expanding the business, their goal has always been to open branches that are close to universities. This is because college students are their target market.

Uncle Soon Fried Rice has gained a lot of support from locals over the past couple of decades, and they now have multiple outlets and stalls across Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. Many people applaud them for being able to maintain the quality and wok hei taste of their fried rice, even after years of business and countless new branches.
