Not too long ago, I wrote about the closure of Soon Heng Pork Noodles, a well-known ‘rival’ to the Bedok 85 soupy bak chor mee powerhouses. Sadly, another stall will soon be joining Soon Heng. Minced Mixed Noodle, a ‘Bedok-style’ BCM stall at Old Airport Road Food Centre, is slated to pull down its shutters on 26 May 2024.

Minced Mixed Noodle may not be the most widely-recognised alternative for soupy BCM. It probably isn’t the most renowned BCM stall within Old Airport Road Food Centre either. Nonetheless, they’ve managed to garner quite a following over the years they’ve been stationed at the food centre.

News of the closure surfaced as early as 4 Feb in the form of a post in the Can Eat! SG Facebook group. Alongside a heartfelt tribute to the stall and their fare, the user shared several images, including one of a laminated poster on its front that indicated a closure date of 31 May. However, the poster has since been updated to reflect an advanced date of 26 May, according to a photo geotagged to the stall’s profile on Google Maps.

For the record, Minced Mixed Noodle has been doling out bowls of bak chor mee for over a decade. Contrary to better-known soupy BCM specialists, the stall offers Dry and Soup options at the same price. Small, Medium and Large bowls are priced at S$4S$5 and S$6 respectively.

The more ‘novel’ Soup version appears to be the most popular choice. The dish features al dente noodles, minced pork chunks and minced pork dumplings, all bathed in pork broth. The Dry version isn’t too shabby either. It stars noodles tossed in a sweet-spicy sauce mixture, topped off with lard oil and a sprinkle of fried garlic.

Minced Mixed Noodle is among the 168 stalls at Old Airport Road Food Centre that will be affected by its closure for renovations starting 1 Jun 2024. While patrons can look forward to the reopening of many beloved stalls when the food centre resumes operations on 30 Sep, Minced Mixed Noodle will, unfortunately, not be among them.

So, take this as your sign to hurry on down to savour a final bowl of their noodles or perhaps bid (temporary) farewell to your favourite stalls at the food centre.
