Fans of crispy battered fish and golden fries, brace yourselves — Master Chippy, the well-loved fish & chips stall tucked in the kopitiam at Block 203 Toa Payoh North, has temporarily shuttered on 14 Jun. The stall announced this news through an official Instagram post just the day before, on 13 Jun.

Master Chippy, formerly known as Mr. Fish & Chips (founded in 1986), has built up a loyal following with their hearty portions of authentic British-style fish and chips crafted by owner Michael Molina, who brings over a decade of UK chippy experience to the table. It has become quite the hidden gem within the Toa Payoh neighbourhood over the years, an “if you know, you know” stall for those residing in the area.

From their Pacific Dory (S$8.90) to Atlantic Halibut (S$15.80), regulars praise Master Chippy for their flavourful batter and satisfying crunch, served with sides like thick-cut fries (chips) and onion rings. They even serve the fish with malt vinegar, just like they do in London.
A customer who visited recently uploaded a post to Facebook sharing that he was greeted by a completely empty coffeeshop.

However, Master Chippy has officially confirmed its relocation to a new standalone outlet at Block 206 Toa Payoh North, taking over the space of a long-time minimart just across from Singapore Press Holdings.
While the stall is not open just yet, the reopening is tentatively set for Aug 2025. Fans can look forward to the same signature British-style fish & chips, now served from a refreshed space in the same familiar Toa Payoh neighbourhood.
For now, we will just have to sit tight and keep our eyes peeled on Master Chippy’s social media for further updates. Whether it’s a relocation or a brief renovation, one thing’s for sure — Toa Payoh just isn’t the same without this crispy, wholesome chippy.
