The beloved owner and matriarch of the renowned Famous Eunos Bak Chor Mee hawker stall, Tan Siu Hong, has passed away peacefully at the storied age of 88 years old.

The news was first broken in a post on the hawker’s Facebook and Instagram pages on 11 Nov 2025, where they discussed Mdm Tan’s legacy and invited loyal customers to her wake.
Mdm Tan was a 3rd-generation hawker; her grandfather was widely considered the founding father of bak chor mee in Singapore, which originated from a stall in Kampung Chai Chee as far back as 1923. That makes the family recipe over 100 years old today.

When it was her turn to helm the family business, Mdm Tan wore the entrepreneurial hat. She expanded Famous Eunos Bak Chor Mee with two stalls at 58 Changi Road and 7 Eunos Crescent, operated by her brother-in-law and daughter, respectively. Their 58 Changi Road outlet closed on 30 Sep 2022.
The brand eventually evolved into its modern iteration in 2017, with outlets all over Singapore in places like Hawkers Street ION, 106 Hougang Avenue, and Bedok Town Centre. They are arguably the most recognised bak chor mee brand in Singapore.

When we headed down to their Eunos outlet, we thoroughly enjoyed both the soup and dry variants of their Bak Chor Mee (S$4.80). The clear broth was bursting with flavour, carrying both umami and garlicky flavours. The wantons were also quite large, brimming with well-seasoned meat filling.

Their dry variant had spice and tanginess in equal measure. It also came with a bowl of wanton soup, so you don’t miss out on their wantons.

Mdm Tan’s grandson succeeds her, pushing the family business forward into its 5th generation. Relatives, family friends, and beloved customers are invited to pay their last respects at 9 Eunos Crescent, Singapore 400009 until 14 Nov 2025.
