Hai Fong kopitiam at 203 Toa Payoh North, which used to house Hup Chong Yong Tau Foo, has been completely revamped. After a 1-month renovation, it now houses a total of 10 stalls, including 4 previously from the same premises.

In case you’re wondering if Hup Chong is still around, sadly, they’re not. Even QiYin Teochew Minced Meat Noodle with my favourite keto bak chor mee is no longer there — noooooo! Where have you moved to?!

I remember being mind-blown when my friend let me try the curry puffs from Er Jie Curry Puff (娥姐) at Golden Mile Tower. The only problem? It’s so far from where I live. Thank the heavens for Puff & Spoon — this stall supplies their range of delicious puffs. Choose from 4 varieties including Potato & Otah Curry Puff (S$2.20), Sardine Curry Puff (S$2.20), and the classic Potato & Egg Curry Puff (S$1.80). It looks like I can now take a bus from the office to enjoy them anytime I wish.
For something more substantial, you can enjoy a packet of Nasi Lemak (S$2.50) or 2 types of bak zhang — Salties Rice Dumpling (S$4.90) and Nyonya Rice Dumpling (S$4.90). There are also light dishes like Chee Cheong Fun (S$2.40), Yam Cake (S$1.80), and Silver Fish Peanut Porridge (S$2.90).

If you have a huge appetite and enjoy grilling or steamboat, then why not go for the S$14.90 nett Buffet (meat only) or S$19.90 nett Buffet at T.E Mookata Buffet?

The $19.90 all-included option gives you access to some cooked food dishes, as well as meats and a plethora of ocean treasures for cooking like half-shell scallops, prawns, squid, bamboo clams, just to name a few. The buffet also throws in unlimited cheese dips, 2 special Thai chilli sauces, and ice cream.
Do note that T.E Mookata Buffet charges extra S$3 per person on Fri to Sun, including public holidays. Children between 100cm to 140cm need only pay S$9.90, while any child below 100cm dines for free.

The Noodle Crafters will make noodle fans jump for joy with offerings like Bak Chor Mee (S$5/S$6), Laksa (S$5/S$6), and Soft Rib Noodle (S$6/S$7). You can also pair them with mini snacks for S$2 each — Fishpaste Tau Kua (1pc), Fried Wantons (3pcs), or Handmade Fishcake (1pc).

Some returning stalls include Zamzam Corner, an Indian-Muslim stall selling crowd favourites like Plain Prata (S$1.20), Egg Cheese Thosai (S$4), Chicken Nasi Goreng (S$6.50), Mutton Roti John (S$5.50), and Fish Briyani (S$7).

Currently, Xin Cheng Yong Tau Foo and Kebeb Bhai are still getting things sorted out, and will be ready in the near future. So if you’re a Toa Payoh resident or looking for new makan options, then swing by Hai Fong kopitiam today!
