I’ll be honest — Korean food in KL & Selangor rarely surprises me these days. It’s usually the same rotation of BBQ, stews, and tteokbokki. But JUNGHEE (정희), freshly opened on 16 Apr at The Campus Ampang, is here to shake things up a little.

Back in Korea, this place has a bit of a following among younger diners. Space-wise, it’s what you’d expect from a Seoul-inspired spot — clean, warm, a bit of wood, a bit of retro, nothing too fussy. Easy place to sit, eat, and just hang.
The menu doesn’t try to cover every single Korean dish under the sun. Instead, it plays around with familiar ingredients and builds something slightly different out of them.

Take the Soybean Sauce Kale Rice Wraps (RM26), for example. At first glance, it sounds like one of those “healthy but boring” dishes — but it’s actually quite the opposite. The kale adds a slight bitterness, the rice keeps it filling, while that soybean paste brings everything together with a deep, savoury punch.

The Bracken Fern Cream Noodles (RM40) is something you won’t want to miss. If you’ve had gosari before, you’d know it usually leans earthy and a bit fibrous — but here, it’s worked into a creamy, almost gnocchi-like situation. The sauce is rich but not overly jelak, and there’s this one-of-a-kind flavour from the fern that keeps it from feeling too heavy.

Now, the Kimchi Cheese Tteokbokki Chicken Fries (RM35) — that’s the one you order when you’re up for some heat. Crispy tangsuyuk chicken, chewy rice cakes, melted cheese, and spicy sauce all piled together like it has something to prove.

If you want something more comforting, Wagyu Beef Kimchi Fried Hot-pot Rice (RM37) is probably the easiest pick. Served sizzling straight to your table, it’s a hearty bowl of savoury, slightly tangy rice, tender beef, and flavours that come together perfectly.

Newly-opened JUNGHEE isn’t trying to reinvent Korean food — it just tweaks it enough to feel fresh. Some dishes stand out more than others, but overall, it’s a solid addition to the area.
