Known for its flaky crust, caramelised top, and silky custard pudding, Madeleine’s Original Portuguese Egg Tarts features a fresh concept with a new generation of owners.

Initially helmed by an elderly couple, the brand is now managed by siblings Benjamin Zachary Ong (22 y.o.) and Vernice Ong (18 y.o.). Being fans of the egg tart brand since childhood, they were dismayed when the brand shut down in 2024 and approached the elderly stall owners to learn the ropes from them.

Now armed with the culinary skills and recipes required to recreate the nostalgic Portuguese egg tarts, the siblings are reviving the brand with a modern twist. Opening as a Macanese char chan teng, Zac and Vernice hope to modernise the brand into something that remains well-loved by future generations.

To preserve the star of the brand, the signature Portuguese Egg Tart (S$2.50) will remain an iconic menu item while main dishes and new bakes are introduced. With items like the Gula Melaka Portuguese Egg Tart (S$2.50), Bolo Bun (S$3.50) and Pork Chop Bun (S$5.90), you’ll be able to enjoy a mix of local fare and Macanese cuisine!

Seeking a mix of tradition and modern, or a blended taste of local and international delicacies? Check out their new opening on 21 Jun and redeem your free mini egg tarts!

I can't cook, but I can eat and tell you if the food is good. I love almost everything that goes with coriander, spring onions or vinegar, but absolutely hate ginger and garlic.
