Ever wanted to eat food prepared by a 1-Michelin star chef without breaking the bank? You can now, with Alkove Bistro which was recently opened on 16 Nov 2022 at 2 Kovan Road.
Alkove Bistro offers French-inspired food, pastries, as well as desserts. Preparation for all of these is overseen by 1-Michelin star Chef Haikal Johari.
Chef Haikal’s resume includes being an executive chef for the Water Library group in Bangkok and Alma by Juan Amador, the latter of which was where he was awarded his Michelin star. It wasn’t all sunshine and roses— Chef Haikal was involved in a motorcycle accident in 2015 which doctors said would leave him paralysed for life. With support, Chef Haikal can now walk with some assistance.
For entrées, Alkove Bistro offers Alkove Charcuterie Board (S$15++/S$22), French Fries with Spicy French Remoulade (S$9.50++) and Fromage Cromesquis (S$9++).
Light eaters can opt for sandwiches that includes Prawns and Avocado (S$16.90++), Smoked Duck (S$16.90++), Spicy Salami (S$16.90++), Croque Monsiuer (S$16.90++) and Morel (S$16.90++).
Its mains has Ocean Trout (S$25++), Chicken Vin Blanc (S$25++) and Wagyu Onglet Steak Frites (S$32++). If you’re into your brunch, Alkove Bistro has got you covered with Omelette (S$16.90++), Scrambled Eggs (S$17.90++) and Japanese oeufs a la coque (S$18.90++).
You can also visit Alkove Bistro for just its baked goods such as Almond Croissant (S$5.50++), Baklava Croissant (S$5.80++), Kouign-Amann (S$5.50++), Onion Leek Focaccia (S$6.50++) and Fourme d’Ambert (S$6.90++).
There are also freshly baked cakes every day such as Swiss Roll with Maple Chantilly (S$4.90++), Banana & Black Sesame (S$5.20++) and Valrhona Chocolate Tart (S$6.20++). Expect fully fresh bread like Traditional Baguette (S$3.80++), Ciabatta (S$3.80++) and Brioche (S$16++).
