After more than a year of hiatus, Chabuton is set to return to 313@Somerset by the end of Dec 2022. The news came in the form of a Facebook post (oddly, its page hasn’t been updated since 2021— until now, that is), confirming their return to its former location. The news was met with many netizens asking for the opening date of the restaurant.

Chabuton is the brainchild of Chef Yasuji Morizumi, who is often touted as the ‘King of Ramen’. His ramen restaurant, MIST in Hong Kong, won two Michelin stars in 2011 and 2012, making it the first ever Michelin star won by a ramen restaurant.

He started Chabuton in 2005 and opened outlets in both Japan and Thailand. It officially opened its first outlet here on 3 Jul 2014 at 313@Somerset and went on to open 3 more outlets at Tampines 1, The Star Vista and Millenia Walk. However, all outlets ceased operations by April 2021.

It’s unknown if Chabuton would reuse its previous menu but there will be no complaints should they decide to, as it was a comprehensive one. It had 3 varieties of tonkotsu ramen such as Tonkotsu Ramen, Tonkotsu Kara Kara Ramen and Tonkotsu Chashu Ramen

There was even Shoyu-style ramen, with options such as Shoyu Ramen, Shoyu Chashu Ramen and Shoyu Zaru Ramen, as well as the Buta Kakuni Ramen, which is an authentic uki-kouji miso-flavoured pork bone soup ramen topped with buta kakuni (braised pork belly simmered in soy sauce). Apart from ramen, they also had donburis such as Chashu Don and Unagi Don.

Here’s hoping for a longer reign of the ramen king!
