It’s hard not to love fried chicken in all its forms. We know how we feel about KFC (well, me mostly). Another form of fried chicken that we can’t help but love is the ever sinful ayam penyet. We like it so much; we even made a whole list naming all our favourite spots. So, you can imagine our excitement when D’Penyetz, the much-lauded and famous Ayam Penyet stall with outlets in six countries, opened its second outlet at JEM.

While there are many ayam penyet stalls across the island, what differentiates them is that fiery chilli that burns so good. For all the chilli fiends, you’ll be pleased to know that D’Penyetz imports their chilli from straight from Jakarta, so this stuff is legit.

For those that have made their rounds in the ayam penyet scene, you’ll know that D’Penyetz is a big deal with outlets in six countries. Have the D’Penyetz Smashed Chicken (S$7.50) or the Sweet Marinated Black Sauce Chicken (S$7.90), a meal so yummy, you might still be thinking about it all day.

This second outlet has seen them having snaking queues and even selling out for lunch.

Everything is about choice at D’Penyetz, and you are able to choose your spicy level. For novices that don’t want to be rolling on the floor in pain, Level One or Level Two would be just nice. Those who want a challenge have their Level Four Extra Spicy, which is either a Sambal Mercon or Fiery Spicy Red Chilli Sauce.

Now, for those that want to play with fire (quite literally, because that’s what you’ll be feeling in your tummy), get the Level Five which is their Sambal Judes. Even thinking about it is making me break out in nervous sweat.

If you do want to visit D’Penyetz, try to be there a little earlier than lunch and dinner times as this outlet has been selling out during lunch for the last couple of days.
