Bubble tea is all the hype now. You have bubble tea tarts, bubble tea cakes, even bubble tea steamboats. But have you ever heard of a gravity-defying bubble tea?

As insane as it sounds, The Benjamins actually sells real bubble tea with authentic pearls that won’t spill over even if you tilt it upside-down.

The Benjamins-1

The Benjamins is a cosy cafe located in the nook of Forum The Shopping Mall. Pictures of their best-seller items lining the shop’s windows will entice you to order them.

The Benjamins-7

This quaint little cafe gave a very chic-industrial vibe as soon as we stepped into it.

When I heard about the new gravity-defying bubble tea, I knew I had to go down and give it a shot myself.

Upside Down Bubble Tea (3)

The famous Upside Down Bubble Tea (S$7.90++) may taste and look like your typical bubble tea, but it sure doesn’t act like one.

The Benjamins-14

The milk tea was “trapped” underneath a thick layer of “foam” which tasted subtly like marshmallows and cotton candy. Imagine biting into something that has a texture between a cake, a mousse and a jelly — that’s exactly what it felt like.

The Benjamins-20

Having tried my fair share of bubble teas, I can safely say that these pearls are as authentic as the ones at your favourite bubble shops. Soft and chewy, they went rather well with the smooth milk tea and the spongy “foam”.

The Benjamins-2

In their gravity-defying series, they also serve “coffee”. These cups of Cappuccino (S$6.90++) and Latte (S$6.90++) are super Insta-worthy.

The Benjamins-18

Unlike the method they used for the Upside Down Bubble Tea by using a layer of “foam” to block the flow of the liquid underneath it, the consistency of these java cups resembled panna cotta instead, though they retained the astringent flavour of the coffee.

The Benjamins not only has bizarre drinks, but they also have peculiar dishes such as Egg Royale (S$12++) with a twist, Spicy Kimchi Cheese Toasties With Lobster And Special Sauce (S$15.90++), and even Ovaltine Bubble Toast and Caramel Lotus Bubble Toast (S$6.90++ each).

The Benjamins-10

With the hype around Indomie, everyone has been trying to incorporate it into anything and everything, like this Original Indomie With Soft Shell Crab And Special Sauce (S$10.90++).

This dish comes with a fried egg sandwiched in-between the toast, and it went flawlessly well with the crispy soft shell crab.

Everything about this cafe is so picturesque and these outlandish foods will definitely score you some Instagram likes.

We know you’ll be tempted to sink your teeth into them ASAP but remember to snap some pictures before you devour them! Which are your favourite dishes?
