New in town: Kim San Leng — New Jurong coffeeshop has Ipoh-style zi char, prawn bak chor mee & braised pork buns

With the much-loved JCube’s closure in Aug 2023, many shoppers have been left with a mall-sized hole in their hearts. But not for long. Featuring a tactfully curated collection of 10 hawker stalls, Kim San Leng‘s latest coffeeshop is set to become a new dining hotspot for shoppers and residents in Jurong.

Kim San Leng - Interior

The eatery first opened its doors at 130 Jurong Gateway Rd on 1 Sep 2023 decked out in a sleek, modern interior that’s become synonymous with this newer generation of coffeeshops.

Kim San Leng Jurong - Da Muzhi

Da Muzhi Minced Meat Noodles is the brainchild of another popular prawn mee establishment, Da Shi Jia Big Prawn Mee. Their novel fusion of both bak chor mee and prawn mee has culminated in the Signature Noodle (S$9.80), a loaded bowl of meat, fish and prawn balls as well as tau gee with fishpaste, pork ribs, and prawn. Diners who order the Handmade Fishball Noodle Soup (S$4) and the classic Bak Chor Mee (S$4) have the option of adding prawn or pork ribs (S$3) and noodles (S$1).

Kim San Leng Jurong - Cheeky Bee Hoon

Multi-award-winning Cheeky Bee Hoon, conceived by a former fine-dining chef, offers gourmet bee hoon at their 4th outlet in Singapore. The Cheeky Signature Bee Hoon (Soup/Dry) (S$10.50) receives a full suite of lala clams, meatballs, and ground pork alongside their QQ bee hoon for a truly premium meal. Less indulgent eaters can savour the popular Cheeky Braised Pork Bee Hoon (Dry) (S$7.80)Lala Bee Hoon (Soup/Dry) (S$7.80) or Cheeky Mixed Pork Bee Hoon (Soup/Dry) (S$5.80) instead.

Kim San Leng - Zi Char

Ipoh Home Cuisine Tai Pai Tong‘s zi char spread is not of your typical variety at Kim San Leng’s new Jurong outlet. With its menu right off the streets of Ipoh, you can partake in their Street Fried Carrot Cake (S$6, S$10), a rather uncommon variation that uses larger chunks of radish cake with beansprouts and greens. For sharing, get the Ipoh Claypot Curry Pork Belly w/ Salted Fish (S$16, S$28), or their Grandma Fried Hakka Pork Pot (S$16, S$28).

Roasted Delights

Treat yourself to Shun Feng Roasted Delight‘s platter of 4 Treasure Rice (S$9), comprised of all mouth-watering cuts of their pork and duck or opt for the same order with Noodles (S$9.50). A down-scaled meal can take the form of a Roasted Sausage Rice/Noodle (S$3.80/S$4.30) and Char Siew Rice/Noodle (S$4/S$4.50).

Kim San Leng Jurong - Chop Steak Western Cuisine

Can you really call it a coffeeshop if it’s missing a Western food stall? Chop Steak Western Cuisine‘s most value-for-money pick is the Hotplate Prime Sirloin Steak w Garlic Butter Sauce (S$14.50) complete with 2 side dishes from a selection of crunchy fresh salad, mashed potato, onion rings and more.

Pasta lovers have Grilled Pork & Sausage (S$8.90)Seafood (S$8.90), and Norwegian Salmon (S$13.90) with the option of tomato, aglio, or cream sauce. Choose from their Anzio Beef Burger (S$7.80) and Anzio Lamb Burger (S$7.80) to be paired with 2 sides if you want a hands-on dining experience.

Dim Sum

Old Airport Road Handmade Pau has brought their expertly crafted dim sums West. For S$1.80, dig into the properly succulent Braised Pork Pau – a pau-erful guilty indulgence. Chef’s Recommendation Signature Big Pau (S$2) is a fist-sized ball of juicy delight to be enjoyed along with some Classic HK Style Siew Mai (3 for S$3). If you prefer other pau fillings, they also have Traditional Handmade Char Siew Pau (S$1) and Red Bean Pau (S$0.90).
