Not so much a new in town and a more in town with the King of Fried Rice. When one has achieved cult status befitting royalty, an introduction might seem extraneous. Still, for the rare few that are uninitiated in the ways of King of Fried Rice, here is a brief introduction.
From the humble stall in Golden Mile to having 13 outlets, Lester owner and chef has come a long way indeed. The menu at King of Fried Rice is simple and to the point. They have the classic Egg Fried Rice (S$4 Plain, S$6.50 with Pork Cutlet, S$6.50 Shrimp, S$10 Crabmeat and Tobiko), which many have touted to be much better than a certain famous xiao long bao chain. Otherwise, you can go for the X.O Fried Rice (S$5.5 Plain, S$7.90 with Pork Cutlet, S$7.90 Shrimp, S$11.50 Crabmeat and Tobiko), which is sure to be all kinds of flavourful.
Otherwise, you can work your way down the list with their Tom Yum Fried Rice (S$5 Plain, S$7.50 with Pork Cutlet, S$7.50 Shrimp, S$11 Crabmeat and Tobiko) and the Mala Fried Rice (S$5 Plain, S$7.50 with Pork Cutlet, S$7.50 Shrimp, S$11 Crabmeat and Tobiko).
Plus, from what I heard, they plan to open as many as 20 outlets this year. The naysayers will decry that having so many outlets will dilute the brand, and you’ll hear the common refrain of ‘not the same standard’ anymore. Given the staggeringly long queues that King of Fried Rice still has, it’s clear every plate of steaming fried rice is top-notch. It’s true, heavy is the head that wears the crown, a decree that surely they will live up to.
