When it comes to comfort foods, I know it’s not a reach by declaring that soup noodles reign supreme in the hearts and bellies of Singaporeans. It’s almost like a perfect cure-all—when you’re sad, when the weather is rainy, you name it, soup noodles can fix it. Enter the newly-opened Laksa House 砂锅叻沙 in Bukit Merah Central.

Speaking of comfort food, the spicy noodles at Laksa House 砂锅叻沙will tick all your boxes—they are served in claypots instead of plastic bowls commonly used for hawker fare, ensuring that the soup and noodles remain steaming hot even while you slurp up the rich, umami broth.

The menu at Laksa House 砂锅叻沙 includes a Signature Laksa (S$5.80), boasting gao broth and a distinctive spiciness that lingers on the tastebuds. The noodles are served with two fresh prawns, beansprouts, tau pok, a hard-boiled egg, cockles, and some fish cake. It’s a hearty combination and one that my laksa-loving mama will be sure to try when she reads this article (when, not if, because she’s my biggest fan).

Maybe you’re in the mood to switch things up on your visit to Laksa House 砂锅叻沙. In that case, how about the Thai Laksa (S$6.50)? It’s not what you’d expect from your usual laksa, instead of boasting of a creamier, less tangy assam laksa. This concoction is made by blending and frying eleven different herbs—including ginger, garlic, turmeric, and candlenut to create a smooth paste. it’s then infused with coconut milk, similar to how laksa lemak is cooked. It might remind you of Thai green curry more than laksa, and it’s topped with the same ingredients.

End your meal with a serving of Baked Scallop (S$6 for three), where three Hokkaido scallops are boiled, coated in a cream sauce, baked, and then torched to smoky, savoury perfection.
