Liang Ji Fried Hokkien Mee, protege of famous Hokkien mee stall, relocates to Tampines

Liang Ji Fried Hokkien Mee is a renowned name for Hokkien mee fanatics. Especially when its name comes with high expectations of being a protege of the owners of Hainan Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee. Previously located in an area filled with famous food, Geylang, it has now shifted to a coffee shop in Tampines, just a stone’s throw away from Tampines Mall.

Liang Ji Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee is the newest addition to Shifu 食福, a coffee shop at Block 445 Tampines Street 42.

Liang Ji Hokkien Mee

Liang Ji Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee specialises in dry-style Hokkien mee, something a bit different from the regular gravy-drenched Hokkien mee that we order on a normal basis. Not to worry, this recipe is decades-old and has a legacy that’ll leave you wanting more.

If you call yourself a Hokkien mee lover, the plate above should seem familiar to you. Taking over as a 2nd generation hawker, the son of the owners of Hainan Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee decided to open Liang Ji Hokkien Mee.

The Hokkien Prawn Mee varies in portions from the Regular size, priced at S$5, and the Large portion at S$10. And for those who would like to splurge could get the S$15 portion, with the addition of king prawns in their noodles or even add on premium abalones for S$10! The mixture of bee hoon-mian is packed with umami, with no unbearable briny taste. This is probably because of the immense wok hei flavour and the fragrance of pork lard that acts as the saviour of the whole dish!

On the other hand, the sambal chilli truly packs a punch. It is rumoured to be deathly and too hot to handle… guess that’s great for spicy lovers!

For those who have a luxurious taste, you can opt for the Lobster Hokkien Mee (S$26). Albeit on the pricier side, you’ll be assured to know that the owner brings in fresh lobsters from the market on a daily.

If you haven’t tried dry-style Hokkien mee, those that stay in the East will be able to try out something new!
