If you’re looking for the best way to start your day the next time you’re around Amoy Street Food Centre, there’s surely no better breakfast pairing than a fresh brioche and a rich espresso. You’d be pleased to know, then, that a new outlet has just opened for business at Amoy Street Food Centre that specialises in just this—and they go by the name of Mad Roaster.

Mad Roaster, which is started as a side business by a lawyer with a passion for baking, serves a Signature Blend (S$3.80 for hot, S$4.30 for cold) made with Ethiopian Sidamo Arabica beans—giving it a rich body with chocolatey undertones. If you’re looking for something more casual, however, a Flat White (S$3.80 for hot, S$4.30 for cold) comes in a small, conveniently-sized takeaway cup for easy carry.

Happy Friday! Tiny but mighty, our humble flat white puts the “gao” in gao dim as we help you take care of that final stretch to the weekend!

All brioches are hand-baked with love by the owner every morning before dawn, and include the Chocolate Babka (S$18), Cinnamon Brioche (S$18) and Laminated Brioche (S$18). A single slice goes at only S$2—making them the perfect companion to your coffee for a tasty and nourishing pick-me-up in the morning.

Each cup from Mad Roaster is also designed and hand-coloured by a refugee seeking asylum in Thailand, with all proceeds going directly in aid of their asylum application. This keeps the price points at Mad Roaster low, and seeing how they are situated right smack in the CBD area, it definitely comes as a pleasant respite from the countless more expensive cafes and roasters around the area.

If you’re in search of coffee and pastries that are affordable and packed with quality, and want to see your money going to a good cause, why not start your day with Mad Roaster—after all, your breakfast can actually go a long way in helping a person in need.
