“No-frills chocolate fudge cake”

matts the chocolate shop

It has been two successful years for Matt’s The Chocolate Shop simply by selling good ol’ chocolate fudge cake. Their cozy shop space at Amoy Street barely sits a dozen people, mainly serving takeaways and corporate orders.

The interior is minimalistic, giving off a homey, rustic vibe. It is actually a lovely place to be in if you can score a seat at their shop.

Dark Chocolate Fudge Cake ($4). The chocolate used is obtained from a local supplier, containing a certain percentage of Valrhona chocolate. The cake was slightly warmed in the microwave before serving, the takeaway boxes are also microwavable. It is decently dense and moist, and thankfully not overly sweet. A great appeal to kids and even adults who doesn’t have a sweet tooth.

No excessive decorations on the plating – just topped with simple chocolate ganache although I would prefer it to be more chocolaty. Worth the price you a paying for a good ol’ chocolate cake.

They also sell their fudge cake in medium, 6 inch ($28) and large, 8.5 inch ($48).

Tiramisu ($7). Not too strong on the coffee liquor but the Lady Fingers are definitely well soaked. I really liked the dense and luxurious cream topped with cocoa. Go for a Double Layer Tiramisu ($10) if you are up for a times two pleasure.

The do sell Chocolate Truffles, as well as daily specials like Pandan Gula Melaka Cake which get sold out quite quickly.

The cakes at Matt’s are baked fresh daily. I appreciate the non-pretentious style for their cakes and deliberately limited menu selection. They will be opening a small stall at One Raffles Place B1-38 in June. No harm stopping by for a decent chocolate fudge cake that will always make your day slightly better.
