With the ongoing tariff issue and the ever-looming cloud of recession, 2025 has become the year where price hikes are no longer surprising — from groceries to your go-to makan spots. On 4 Apr, Omega Pork Noodle took to Facebook, breaking their silence over the dramatic price increase of their signature dish

The post included a rather stern warning letter from the Ministry of Domestic Trade & Cost of Living (KPDN), citing them for not clearly displaying service charges and taxes on their menu — a slip that led to what many customers felt were “hidden charges.”

But that wasn’t all. The eatery took the opportunity to address growing complaints from loyal fans over the price jump of their signature pork noodlesfrom RM8.50 to RM15.50. Yes, that’s a jaw-dropping RM7 leap.

In the post, Omega Pork Noodle shared their side of the story, admitting they hate raising prices just as much as customers hate seeing them. The main reason? The price of their prized “Omega pork” has skyrocketed from RM11 to RM26 per kilogramme

Omega pork, known for its special feed and careful rearing methods, costs 10% more than regular pork — and the quality, they claim, is worth every cent.

On top of that, rent for their shop has surged from RM8K to RM13.5K, and staff salaries have doubled from RM1.5K to RM3K. With these mounting costs, they insist the only way to maintain their food quality and portion size — a firm 100g of pork per patty — is to adjust their prices. Shrinking portions? Not an option, they say.

In the end, the lesson is clear: price hikes may be inevitable, but transparency goes a long way. When eateries open up about what’s going on behind the scenes, it helps customers understand that sometimes, that extra ringgit or two comes with a story worth hearing — and maybe, just maybe, worth paying for.
