Overbrod has opened its doors at Anchorpoint Shopping Centre, with simplistic decor and wooden furnishings. The selling factor of Overbrod is undeniably their food selection, which ranges from Scandinavian-based sandwiches to meatballs and more.

This was my first exposure to Scandinavian dishes including Smørrebrød. Smørrebrød is a dark, heavy bread which comes in varieties from light-coloured rye to very dark, and from refined to whole-grain. Essentially, it is a type of bread used in sandwiches.
The sandwiches are categorised into 2 sections: hot and cold. Either way, just imagine a heap of quality ingredients with a fusion twist sitting atop fancy bread.

The cold Cured Salmon (S$19) is a great example, as it features house-cured gravadlax which has undergone a brief zuke (soy-sauce based) marination phase, which is mostly used in Japanese cuisine.
This is not a conventional Scandinavian cooking method, but sees relevancy as the umami flavours of the fish is greatly enhanced. Ikura and pomegranate seeds completes the assemble by providing that subtle salty and fruity flavour burst upon each bite.

Other sandwich options include Mushrooms (S$15) and Roast Beef (S$18). I also appreciate how the bread used for each construction varies according to its topping counterparts. This thoughtful act enables a well-balanced pairing with the ingredients complementing one another. One downside though would be the absence of vegetarian and vegan options.
Sharing dishes include their must-get Meatballs (S$18) served with lingonberry and citrus jam and Potatoes (S$9) alongside saffron aioli and tobiko.
There is no better companion to good food than a carefully curated drinks list. I especially love the names given to the seasonal selection of beers. I mean, who else have served Stream of Consciousness (S$17) or Dangerously Close to Stupid (S$16)!
I am convinced that the opening of Overbrod contributes to the continuous growing of Singapore’s food and beverage scene. Its menu offerings definitely piques my interest and encourages me to head down to taste them personally!
