Punggol foodies, there’s some sad news. Punggol East Container Park is set to close by 1 Nov 2026. The Container Park will be making way for future residential development and will be demolished.

Established around 10 years ago, Punggol East Container Park has become one of the more distinctive dining spots in Singapore. It offers an open-air setting with unblocked views, perfect for watching the sunset as you dine. I personally like the area for its rustic-industrial aesthetic reminiscent of overseas night markets. Because of all these unique factors, the area feels like a getaway from the hustle and bustle of Singapore.

One of the first tenants to publicly address the closure and confirm its departure was The Smok Hous. In its social media posts, the restaurant said that it had received news of the closure in Jul 2026, with all tenants required to vacate the space by 1 Nov 2026.

The post also highlights some of the site’s iconic features, such as old food trucks, a leaning lamp post, as well as the container restaurants

In another social media post, Rudy from The Smok Hous, Alvin from ChickyFish and Nurnisa from Tarana shared their thoughts on the impending closure.

ChickyFish has been around for 10 years, since the container park’s establishment. Alvin expressed sadness over the closure, but he also hopes that the news will bring more people to visit the container park, to create one last set of memories while it stands.

For Tarana, the closure comes at an especially unfortunate time. The restaurant only opened around 4 months ago. Nurnisa shared, “people just started to come here”, but with the sudden closure, “they’ll all be gone”.

Meanwhile, Rudy revealed that The Smok Hous is still searching for a new location and that they might even return to operating as a home-based business.

Here are some of the affected tenants, along with their closing dates and upcoming plans.

  • Fat Po will close on 20 Sep 2026, with no upcoming plans.
  • The Smok Hous will close by 1 Nov 2026, and they are searching for a new location.
  • Seoul Good Dessert Coffee X ChickyFish will be closing at the end of Oct 2026.

With this sad news, let’s make the most of the time we have left with this iconic area. Head down to Punggol East Container Park and support the businesses there before it closes forever in Nov.
