So far, the eateries I’ve tried for my best-rated series have lived up to my expectations. On that note, I decided to continue the series by searching for the best-rated beef noodles. My internet hunt led me to Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles in Petaling Street.

Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles - Store front

Boasting an impressive 4.6-star rating from nearly 1.5k reviews (at time of writing), this stall caught my attention and I quickly headed to the closest LRT station, and hopped over to Petaling Street. As I read more into the reviews, I found out that this place has been dishing out Hakka beef noodles since the 1930s.

I snagged a seat right before the lunch rush, even if it meant sharing a table with a stranger. Honestly, I didn’t mind because my hunger was taking over, and the enticing aroma of beef noodles filling the air was making it hard to resist.

Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles - Vibes

The small eatery was hot and stuffy despite there being air conditioning. The staff were hurriedly taking orders and serving the piping hot bowls of beef noodles to each table. From an outsider’s view, the place was absolutely chaotic. But in all honesty, it was controlled chaos.

What I tried at Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles

I had plenty of options to choose from, with both soup and dry varieties available like Fresh Beef Soup, Beef Ball Soup, Dry Horfun, and Dry Mee. The cherry on top? A small bowl costs just RM12, and a large bowl, RM14.

Despite my lack of proficiency in Mandarin, I managed to order a small bowl of Fresh Beef Soup (RM12) with my noodle choice being bihun. The bowl arrived with minced beef on top of sliced beef, bihun submerged in a translucent broth and was garnished with green onions.

I tried a portion of the sliced beef, and it was tender, practically melting in my mouth. It offered a savoury flavour with a sweet undertone and was easy to chew.

Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles - Minced beef

Next up was the minced beef. Honestly, the addition of minced beef caught me off guard, as I’m not used to having it in my beef noodles. Nonetheless, I decided to give it a shot, and was pleasantly surprised. I had a hunch that dark soy sauce might be part of the mix, but I couldn’t quite pinpoint it. Whatever secret blend was used, it was heavenly.

Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles - Broth

Without hesitation, I took a sip of the broth, and the only word that came to mind was umami. The flavour profile was savoury, with a hint of sweetness from the beef. Mixing everything together turned the translucent broth into a rich, dark brown hue.

It was a harmonious blend of flavours— sweet, salty, savoury, you name it. I was slurping down my bowl of soup with sweat trickling down my face. But that didn’t bother me— I was completely captivated by the bowl of beef noodles.

Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles - Bihun

The bihun noodles were springy and soaked up the broth’s flavours. I saw them as a complementary element, with the true stars of the dish being the beef and the broth.

After polishing off my bowl, I found myself drenched in sweat. The tempting idea of ordering another bowl crossed my mind, but upon seeing the growing line outside the shop, I decided not to. Departing from Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles, I felt satisfied.

Final thoughts

In my opinion, Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles truly lives up to its ratings. Despite the cramped and somewhat stuffy ambience, this eatery is worth checking out. I recommend making a morning visit to avoid the afternoon heat and lunchtime rush.

And the best part? It’s just a 3-minute walk from Pasar Seni LRT station. Gather your friends and pay a visit to Sin Kiew Yee Shin Kee Beef Noodles today. Don’t forget to bring a hand towel to wipe off your sweat!
