Neighbourhood pasar malams have become more frequent and I am sure folks are ecstatic about having piping hot food right by their doorstep. From 24 Jun – 9 Jul 2023, the  Tampines Avenue 2 Pasar Malam will be here with some fantastic goodies!

Just a short distance from Tampines East MRT, this pasar malam is easily accessible. It will operate from 12pm to 10pm, so working folks won’t miss out on the fun. Do note that it lies along a stretch of HDB blocks and you’ll have to cross the road would be necessary to see the whole spread.

Tampines Avenue 2 Pasar Malam — Section of Pasar Malam

Honestly, this one is definitely on a smaller scale compared to the pasar malams beside MRTs like Bazaar Lambak or Yishun MRT Food Fair. Counting all the stalls, I found that there were just 9 so choices may be scarcer than you might expect.

Tampines Avenue 2 Pasar Malam — Ah Moi Thai Tea

Of course, pasar malam regulars like Ramly Burger and Ah Moi Thai Tea were present with their popular items. Both stalls clearly can’t go wrong. Having tried the milk tea previously at Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar, it is from firsthand experience that I say they make fantastic thirst quenchers.

Tampines Avenue 2 Pasar Malam — Chocolate Tutu Kueh

Chocolate Tutu Kueh was what caught my eye since I had not encountered it before. This particular stall even has a deal of 2 flavours for S$4, with choices between Chocolate, Coconut, Peanut, Palm Sugar and, strangely, Kosong (Plain).

The texture was just right, not soggy yet firm enough for easy eating. It is rather light on the filling, making it less indulgent than I would have preferred. A note would also be that the chocolate was grainy, which may not be for everyone. Flavour-wise, I enjoyed how it tasted almost like a Milo replica.

Tampines Avenue 2 Pasar Malam — IKAN

To my surprise, Tampines Avenue 2 Pasar Malam had IKAN, which sold rather intriguing types of otah like Scallop Otah and Crab Otah for S$4.90 for 5 pieces.

Soft with a few small chunks of crab, the Crab Otah almost fooled me with its friendly demeanour. However, that slight tinge of red sambal was so spicy that it instantly had my eyes watering. At first, the tangy flavour was one I could appreciate but it soon evolved into a flaming kick my spice-intolerant self could not endure. The spice fanatics will appreciate the heat, but I definitely didn’t!

Drinks Section

Need cheap drinks? This nameless stall in Tampines Avenue 2 Pasar Malam has got you covered with their S$3 for 1 litre deal! With a total of 6 choices, there are usuals like Bandung and Lemon Tea and the unique Bird Nest. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but it’s a cold refresher from the heat.

Though Tampines Avenue 2 Pasar Malam is on the bitty side, there is still much to enjoy if you are in the area. For Tampines folks living nearby, perhaps a snack for the journey back home is much closer than you’d expect.
