If you’ve been craving a proper bowl of beef noodles in Kuala Lumpur, you can now get a taste of one of Penang’s popular names without heading across the border. Teow Kee Beef Noodles, which first made a name for itself in George Town, has opened its first KL outlet in Imbi, bringing its hefty bowls of beef noodles to the city.

Its signature bowl comes loaded with familiar beef noodle trimmings, including sliced beef, brisket, minced beef, beef balls, tendon, tripe and white radish.

The 5-Topping Beef Noodle costs RM25, while the 8-Topping Beef Noodle goes for RM35. Each bowl comes generously filled with noodles, broth and toppings.

What makes Teow Kee interesting is how its beef noodles pull inspiration from different styles. Its milky, collagen-rich broth is made by slow-boiling beef bones and marrow, giving it a richness that might remind you of tonkotsu ramen. There’s even a jammy ramen egg on top, while the noodles have a pleasant chew.

For something different, try the Dry Beef Noodle, which comes coated in a savoury brown sauce. It’s less punchy than the soup version, but a spoonful of their beef-fat chilli oil adds a fragrant kick without overwhelming the bowl.
The toppings are where Teow Kee really shines. Angus beef slices are satisfyingly substantial, while the brisket comes in tender chunks with just enough fat to keep things juicy. Its beef tendon is particularly silky and soft, while even the white radish practically melts.

You can also customise your bowl with coriander, spring onions and fried garlic, plus pickled radish to freshen things up between bites.
Currently, beef noodles are the main attraction, though more dishes such as Curry Beef Tendon Rice, Chicken Steak Scallion Noodles and Chicken Jjajang Noodles are in the pipeline.
For now, if a giant bowl of beefy goodness sounds like your kind of supper in KL, newly-opened Teow Kee Beef Noodles is worth adding to the list.
