I remember swinging by the now-defunct 9S coffee shop at Riversails, Sengkang East Drive back in Oct 2024. Had it not been for my cousin living in the area, this freshly opened gem — The Coffeehood & Tea Hall — might have stayed completely under my radar (thanks Geraldine!).

Opened on 9 Jan 2026, this makan spot features a total of 7 stalls, including the quintessential drinks shop. Some (myself included) may get the name of the coffee shop wrong, but Makan Melaka Nasi Lemak Berlauk is actually the anchor tenant, with 3 of its stalls occupying the space.
Since my stomach was rumbling after getting caught in the peak hour jam, it was time to get some fuel.

As a proud member of team noodles, I was excited upon locating the Mee Bagus stall. The menu boasts a decent assortment of dishes such as Seafood Laksa (S$6.50), Chicken Meatball Noodle (S$5), and Mee Wanton (S$5).

Back in my polytechnic days, Ajisen’s Volcano Ramen was a constant staple of my diet. The moment I spotted the Volcano Chicken Mee (S$7.30), I knew I had to order it for old times’ sake — to relive that fiery burn all over again. It was a bowl of ramen-style mee kia that came with chicken slices, a lava egg, fishballs, a peppery chicken meatball, abalone squid slices, and of course, the volcano sambal.
The spice is made for those that can handle the heat. For someone like me who is in-between, I enjoyed ‘suffering’ while agreeing that it was undeniably delicious.

Fancy a little bakery retreat at your local kopitiam? Besides satisfying your waffle itch with Original (S$2) and Single Topping (S$2.60), BakeCakery sells a variety of pastries. Some options include the Orh Nee Egg Tart (S$2.80), Crème Brulee Danish (S$3.50) and Hawaiian Crozza (S$3.50). I even spotted fanciful box cakes like Dubai Kunafa Chocolate (S$9.90).

That’s not all, they sell 8 varieties of Pinsa Romana pizza, too! The Meatlovers (S$12.90) is a mix of assorted sausages and pepperoni. You can also try the Truffle Mushroom (S$9.90), Spicy Sardine (S$.9.90), and Smoked Salmon (S$12.90).

At Chops & Sear, there are over 40 selections of Western dishes to choose from — from pasta and burgers to whole spring chickens and lamb chops. I tried the Seared Norwegian Salmon (S$15.90) served with onion rings and potato salad. The fish was tender and flavourful and I adored the creamy sauce that accompanied it.

As I mentioned earlier, Makan Melaka has a trio of stalls. For lights snacks, enjoy some Goreng Pisang Melaka (S$3 for 8 pieces) and Potato Curry Puff (S$1.50). You can also slurp on some Mee Rebus (S$3.80) and Mee Soto (S$3.80).
For something more substantial, head to Nasi Lemak Berlauk Melaka for lip-smacking Ayam Masak Merah Melaka (S$6) and Stingray Asam Pedas Melaka (S$8).

I also spotted Mee Cik Ling that sells ban mian and Sinar that sells seafood and zi char. If you reside in Sengkang, why not spend some time exploring the fresh food options at The Coffeehood & Tea Hall?
