Better late than never. Meta has finally brought the full-featured version of WhatsApp to the Apple Watch, marking the end of a long wait for iPhone users. The update was announced yesterday, 4 Nov 2025, and requires an Apple Watch Series 4 or later running watchOS 10 or newer.

It allows Apple Watch wearers to stay connected without constantly reaching for their phones, something Android smartwatch users have been enjoying for two and a half years. This isn’t just a notification mirror; the dedicated Apple Watch app introduces several key features that make WhatsApp far more functional from the wrist.
Users can now read entire messages — including long chats — directly on their watch, see call notifications, record and send voice messages, and even react to texts with quick emoji responses. Images and stickers will also appear sharper for a richer and more immersive visual experience on the Watch screen.

Another welcome addition is the ability to view more of a chat’s history, so it’s easier to catch up on missed messages during a pickleball match, your daily commute or a boring meeting. Importantly, all messages and calls remain fully protected with WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption, just as they are on your phone. Here is a quick summary of all the new features:

Android users have had a head start here, with smartwatches powered by Wear OS offering integrated WhatsApp messaging and call support since 2023. Apple Watch owners, on the other hand, were limited to basic notifications and could not reply or listen to voice messages natively until now.
Meta describes this release as “just the start” for WhatsApp on Apple Watch, suggesting more capabilities will be rolled out over time. With this launch, WhatsApp finally levels the playing field between Apple and Android users… and gives millions of Apple Watch owners a reason to check their wrists a little more often.
