If you thought 2 coffee shop suspensions in a day was bad enough, wait till you hear this. 6 coffee shops were suspended on separate notices on the same day by the SFA (Singapore Food Agency).
6 coffee shops in Punggol, Balestier, Geylang, Little India and Toa Payoh were suspended by the SFA for one day on 21 Feb for hygiene issues.

7 STARS in Punggol, Teck Wah in Toa Payoh and 27A Coffee Shop in Geylang received 12 demerit points for failing to keep the toilet clean and in good repair. The trio were found guilty of that offence 3 times over the past year and were fined a total of S$1,300 each.

Teck Seng in Balestier received 8 points for 2 offences for not keeping the toilet clean and in good repair, and 4 for failing to maintain the quality of sanitary fittings. For this, it was fined S$1,100.

Al Mubin Restaurant just opposite the Mustafa Centre in Little India received 12 demerit points and was fined S$1,300. Of the 12 points, 8 were for 2 offences of failure to maintain toilet fittings in good working condition and repair, while 4 were for not keeping the toilet clean.
1002 Food Court in Toa Payoh was fined S$1,200 for 2 offences of failing to keep the toilet clean and in good repair. 6 demerit points were also imposed for failing to provide toilet paper and soap in the toilet, bringing it to a total of 14 points.
The SFA’s Points Demerit System (PDS) encourages food establishments in Singapore to uphold better food safety standards. According to the PDS, an eatery may be suspended for up to 3 days if it accumulates 12 points within 12 months. Points are allocated based on severity and may result in suspension or revocation of food licenses.
6 coffee shops being suspended in one day is almost unheard of! This should serve as a reminder to other eateries in Singapore to maintain the hygiene of their premises.
