Looks like the growth of new cafes in Singapore is not slowing down any time soon. After introducing Kyoto-based coffee chain, Kurasu, and Korean-inspired Kreams Krafthouse, there’s a new cafe in town bursting with simplistic Taiwanese vibes and it’s none other than Simple Cafe.

Located in NEWest Building at West Coast Drive, this cafe decks a minimalistic look with its whitewashed walls, concrete flooring and zenned-out wooden furniture. Step into Simple Cafe and you will swoon at the mandopop love songs by the likes of Jay Chou and JJ Lin—a time to play sing-a-long while sipping on your coffee.

Run by two home bakers turned cafepreneurs, Simple Cafe serves up simple (just like their name suggests) yet delicate-looking cakes and pastries that are familiar to all.

For a fragrant and fruity bite, Berry (S$8.50) is the signature strawberry shortcake that is delicate, light, and filled with moist layers. Topped with a whole strawberry, this is the perfect option to go with a cup of Black Coffee (S$5 for hot, S$5.50 for iced) or White Coffee (S$5.50 for hot, S$6 for Iced).

Craving something slightly sour and acidic? Be sure to order Bassion (S$8), Simple Cafe’s version of a passionfruit tart. Encased in a thin tart crust is passionfruit curd and a special ingredient—banana! Try it and you will be surprised at how well this combination works.

Cakes and pastries aside, Simple Cafe also has handmade donuts for sale. Basic flavours such as Vanilla aside, sink your teeth into their Singapore-inspired Pandan Donut (S$4.50) for an aromatic bite to go with your cup of Mocha (S$6 for hot, S$6.50 for iced).

Simple Cafe might not be filled with the glitz and glamour that will blow your mind, but it sure provides a certain sense of comfort and serenity. So why not stop by for an afternoon tea after a hectic morning to take a breather over a piece of cake and freshly brewed coffee?
