Duck confit from a hawker stall? You heard that right. Nestled in the upper floor of Hong Lim Market & Food Centre, Eddy’s serves up exciting fusion cuisine at affordable prices. Opened by Chef Eddy Wan, the menu is undoubtedly special, straying away from the offerings in your usual Western hawker fare. The self-taught chef ventured into the culinary world after drawing inspiration from his mother’s cooking, who also worked as a hawker.

“Cooked fresh, fast, and tastes tokong” is the motto for Eddy’s. With an extensive menu that provides a variety of rice bowls, pastas, and burgers, there’s bound to be something for everyone here. To make things more interesting, each dish is spiced up a notch with the addition of unique ingredients like mala spices and hae bee hiam. It adds a local touch to the food, so one can find familiarity and comfort when indulging in Western dishes here.

Of course, the most eye-catching menu item would be the Duck Confit (S$10). For the uninitiated, the dish involves cooking duck in its own fat over long periods of time, a technique more commonly found in restaurant kitchens as opposed to hawker stalls.

Yet, Eddy’s has managed to bring the dish over to the hawker scene, while still ensuring its accessibility and affordability for customers. You can opt for either the Aglio Olio Spaghetti or Mashed Potato as your carb pairing. If that’s not enough, the dish comes served with corn on the cob and a side of coleslaw.

If you’re hankering for pasta, fret not. The Mala Shrimp Spaghetti (S$7.50) also offers a spicy and savoury mix of flavours that is sure to whet your appetite. Served with mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, and broccoli, you’ll definitely get a well-balanced and filling meal here at Eddy’s.

With hawker culture in Singapore being added to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, let us show our appreciation to our local hawker heroes for serving up delicious food all these years. Eddy’s is a fine example of young hawkers helping to preserve our hawker trade, serving up truly unique fare for its diners.
