And they said Avengers: Endgame was the best crossover in history. I, for one, can think of many people I know who’ll definitely be elated to hear of the tie-up between homegrown brand Yeo’s and well-loved Swedish name Oatly and their S$30 million investment to build Singapore’s, as well as Asia’s, first ever oat milk manufacturing facility. For starters, I know my colleague Nicole is practically doing jumping jacks with avocado toast in one hand and matcha latte in the other, reading the news; after all, they don’t call her queen of oat milk for nothing. (Who’s “they” anyway?)
It’s no secret that if we’re planning on sticking around here on Earth for a while more, we’re going to need to make some changes to life as we know it. The rate of consumption of so much produce today is far too much for the planet to handle, so it’s not coincidence that so many plant-based brands have popped up as of late. And now, alternative forms of milk are coming at us hard and fast, too.
Apart from the obvious fact that oat milk is non-dairy, it’s also high in beta-glucans and lactose-free—which, in layman’s terms, simply spell better health. In a first move towards producing Oatly milk outside North America and Europe, this project is in line with “Yeo’s purpose of nourishing every home with natural goodness across generations,” as written in a press release. And don’t we love to see more diverse options produced locally.
The locally-manufactured oat milk will see production in the second half of this year. The goal is to hit 60 million litres of milk, and when the time comes, you definitely oat to try it if you haven’t already.
In a showdown between the brand in question Oatly, Otis, and Minor Figures, writer Nicole susses out the best amongst all and spoiler alert, Oatly emerges strong in this one.
