Containing some of Singapore’s top Indian and Malay food, Ayer Rajah Food Centre is popular among the Westies. As of 18 May 2023, this food centre may gain even more popularity, thanks to Soon Lee Fish Soup opening their second outlet there.

In my humble opinion, it is great that Soon Lee Fish Soup is expanding, considering its popularity at Defu Lane. With long snaking queues and constant sell outs, the opening of a second outlet was inevitable.

Opened by King Grouper Fish Soup, Soon Lee Fish Soup seems to be a subsidiary brand by the same folks. The company is self-sufficient, operating its own fish farm in Changi for the ultimate farm-to-table concept. You can rest assured that their fish are the freshest of the fresh!

Moving back to Soon Lee Fish Soup (also known as Soon Lee Fish Porridge Seafood Soup), the new outlet offers 11 menu options as opposed to the original’s 10. Fret not if the wide array seems intimidating as the different items actually just refer to different types of fish in your broth.

Of course, the Sliced Grouper Fish Soup (S$8 for smallS$10 for large) and Sliced Red Grouper Fish Soup (S$10 for smallS$12 for large) are predicted to be the most popular. Who could deny that fresh sweetness paired with savoury broth?

However, don’t neglect the others! Batang Sliced Fish Soup (S$6 for smallS$8 for large) would be a more economical option, which I’m all here for.

The cultured will know the usual 3 carbs options — Rice, Rice Vermicelli and Yi Mein. Whichever one you choose, it is sure to be marvelous with the thick slabs of tender fish.

If you are stopping by Ayer Rajah Food Centre, it would be a shame to miss out on what Soon Lee Fish Soup has to offer. Will the West have more goodies in store? Only time will tell.
