When we think of authentic Korean food, kopitiams and hawker centres are not what usually come to mind. Yet that is how Kimchi Jib Express has decided to come onto the scene. Their newest outlet opened at 51 Toa Payoh Lor 6 on 14 Dec, expanding their consumer base eastward.

Like the flagship store that opened at a coffee shop on 11 Sep at Lor Liput, the Toa Payoh outlet is located similarly so. Currently, it sits under a HDB estate and shares a spot with Jia Li Seafood Soup.
Kimchi Jib offers a variety of dishes under $10. So, while not in an air-conditioned eatery like most of their contemporaries, it makes up for it by being an economical option. They even opt for individual portions for stews and soups. It’s an outlier as most places offer them as group servings.
Even when compared to the already affordable flagship, the menu at Toa Payoh has been lowered by S$0.50.

At the top of the menu is the S$6 Original Kimchi Stew which uses their house-aged kimchi. It may as well be the signature for Kimchi Job Express as it shows their wallet-friendliness and what type of food to expect from them.
They have a variety of other kimchi-based stews, too. From Beef (S$8) and Pork (S$8) to Mackerel (S$8) and Tuna (S$8), there is something for everyone. The priciest dish on their menu, the classic Army Stew only goes up to S$9.
All stew and soup pots come with small sides and rice.
If you’re not feeling up to stews or soup, Kimchi Jib also has dishes like Kimchi Bacon Fried Rice (S$6) and Grilled Beef Ribs (5 pieces for S$8.50). The latter is recommended by some who have eaten at Kimchi Jib.

As a mini celebration for their new outlet, those who like and share their Facebook and Instagram will get free fried tofu for their stew order.
