Chomp Chomp Food Centre reopened on 27 Jan after a 3-month renovation, back with a spanking-new orange-grey signage upfront. It wasn’t until March that the hawker centre welcomed a couple of new kids on the block to its lineup of food options.

Unfortunately, an additional stall that had also opened is in the midst of closing down due to poor footfall. I shan’t reveal much, but let us acknowledge the harsh realities of the F&B challenges that owners face — we wish them all the best in their next endeavour.

Say hi to Janelle, the owner of That’s My Pizza, that only operates from Thursdays to Sundays, 5pm to 8.30pm. Together with her younger sister, Janice, the sister duo was running the business as a pickup and delivery space at Serangoon North that ended in late 2024.

Don’t be surprised if the stall name rings a bell — that’s because the establishment’s OG stall was started by their elder sister, Christina, and her best friend, Ailyn, at the now-defunct Bukit Timah Market & Food Centre. They’ve since shifted to the Bukit Timah Wet Market & Food Centre (Interim), and operate another outlet at Newton Food Centre, as well as Cafe Dough at 354 Alexandra Road.

Janelle is usually the one who arrives early at the stall to handle prep work, while Janice joins her a little later. Taught by their elder sister, or ‘shifu‘, Christina, the sisters prep the pizza dough which undergoes a 72-hour fermentation process. This 3-day method helps reduce that heavy, bloated feeling you’ll normally get when you eat frozen, off-the-shelf pizzas. Truth be told, I’ve had their pizzas on more than a couple of occasions, and never once felt bloated — that’s a fact (not paid to say so, by the way).

The dough is hand-stretched, assembled with the base sauce and ingredients, then topped with fior di latte — a type of mozzarella that’s crafted from whole cow’s milk instead of buffalo milk. It’s then baked on the spot for just 90 seconds using their chio green oven, nicknamed ‘Jingles’. Apparently, it’s a thing between the sisters to have aliases for their ovens — Christina names hers ‘Rocky’ and ‘Raylee’. After baking, grana padano is grated as a finishing touch.

The menu features a total of 31 pizzas, including 2 dessert ones for those with a sweet tooth. Choose between 7 main categories — Tomato, Special, Truffle White, Truffle Black, Pesto, Rosemary Garlic, and Sweets. Prices start from S$18 for the Nutella Marshmallow all the way to their most premium flavour; the Truffle Black Four Cheese (S$39).

If you need a lil’ recommendation, my go-to flavour is always the Japanese Chashu Kurobuta (S$30). The meat is shredded, prepared like a rilette, and smothered in an addictively-shiok sauce that never fails to impress my taste buds.

I also ordered the Portobello Pesto (S$26) which was layered with loads of earthy mushrooms and herby pesto — so light but so delicious!

Ban mian and mee hoon kueh aficionados can swing by Xiao Lan Ban Mee • Mee Hoon Kueh (小兰板面 • 面粉粿), run by 53-year-old Seng.

He had spent his younger days working as a hotel chef and cooked at several kopitiam stalls. This is his very first venture as a stall owner selling ban mian, and when asked why he chose this particular dish, he replied, “I’ve spent many years cooking it and it’s easy, that’s all.”

Customers can choose options like Mee Hoon Kueh Soup (S$5.30), Tomyum Seafood Ban Mee (S$7.30), and Batang Sliced Fish Ye Mee Soup (S$6.30).

The Spicy Ban Mee (S$5.30) looked pretty non-intimidating at first, served with a bowl of soup.

However, upon tossing all the elements up, the colours took on a deep-red hue, similar to the chilli ban mee I had in KL in the past. The spice was a little smoky and robust, but not overly spicy to the point where it overwhelmed my whole palate. The bowl was complemented by fishcake pieces, minced meat, mushrooms, a handmade meat ball, pork ball, ikan bilis, and two kinds of green vegetables. The noodles were decent and had a good bite. Overall, I enjoyed the combination.

For those who don’t like dry noodles, there’s the Ban Mee Soup (S$5.30) that has the exact same ingredients but with soup instead.
So next time you head to Chomp Chomp Food Centre, be sure to pay these 2 new entrants a visit.
