Prinsep Street is an area that bursts to life at night, normally filled with bustling bars and partygoers. I didn’t expect to spot a clothing store called Backyard Bar, which was tucked away in a corner. Or at least, that was what I thought it was.

At first glance, Backyard Bar might come across as an out-of-place clothing store, but there is actually more than what meets the eye. Behind the blinds of the store’s “fitting room” lies a hidden entrance to their bar. If you ask me, this is truly an ingenious concept.

The hidden staircase is illuminated by colourful lights, along with music booming in the background. This will lead you up to the bar on the second floor, which is designed to look like your typical rooftop attic.

Cantonese art and posters line the walls, which are decorated with more glowing lights to give the bar a homely vibe. Both bar tables and sofas are available, allowing customers to enjoy their drinks in a cozy setting.

Backyard Bar is well known for its signature cocktails (S$15 for a glass, S$48 for a jug). Among them, many customers tend to opt for their Blue Pea Mojito. It features a delightful blend of elements such as rum and mojito syrup, bringing you that authentic and powerful cocktail experience. Besides that, some other house favourites include their Longest Island and their Calming Chamomile.

Other than cocktails, Backyard Bar also offers your classic party drinks. This includes different brands of Beer (S$12 for a bottle) and Soju (S$18 for a bottle, S$45 for three bottles).

If you want to get into the party mood fast, you should be going for their All-Time Fav selection. Some good selections include their Flaming Lamborghini and their Waterfall (S$25 each).

For ladies, this one is for you. You’ll be able to enjoy a free cocktail on the house if you head down to the “clothing store” every Wednesday!
