How often do you crave bingsu, but end up not getting any because of the heavy portion and hefty price tag? There is one solution. Introducing Bingsusu, a small store at Esplanade MRT Mall that serves the cheapest on-the-go bingsu from S$3.
Bingsu, a dessert mountain of fluffy shaved milk ice with various toppings, is most commonly found in Korean eateries. Usually, one has to share the heavy serving with others to finish it and alleviate the damage to their wallet.
A relatively new local dessert brand, Bingsusu is switching things up. With cups priced from S$3, it is much more affordable than most places. The toppings only cost an extra S$0.70 each.
The shaved ice is heaped into a printed paper cup, which fits snugly in one hand, ready for takeaway. What’s more, the portion isn’t too large, yet it is generous enough for an individual.
A chilly treat for after your solo City Hall window shopping spree, or to indulge in while you walk along the river outside.
Bingsusu brings a local twist to the Korean dessert. The two main shaved ice flavours are Gula Melaka (S$3), sweet with red palm sugar, and Calamansi (S$3) for a citrusy zing.
The Chendol Bingsusu (S$4.50) is yet another fusion creation, this time using the Southeast Asian dessert as a reference. Gula Melaka Bingsusu is topped with pandan jelly and red bean paste, and drizzled with fragrant coconut cream for that local flavour.
Citrus Burst (S$4.50) looks exactly as the name suggests. Lychee popping pearls, evaporated milk, and mango and strawberry syrup are poured over the Calamansi Bingsusu for a refreshing tang. Perhaps a tropical flavour for the hotter months (or, for Singapore’s seemingly eternal summer).
Bingsusu is the cheapest bingsu place in town, with its affordable and enticing bingsu cups for takeaway. If you ever find yourself needing a small sugar fix near Esplanade, but don’t want to eat or spend too much, fret not. Dessert is served!
