Looking for a place to hang out past midnight with your friends? If local desserts from Sweet Hut Dessert is not exactly your cup of tea, why not try something a little more exotic? Introducing, Singapore’s very first Vietnamese dessert haven, Cong Ngot.
Located in Bugis, Cong Ngot is sure to relieve some travel blues with their authentic Vietnamese sweets. For an icy treat to beat Singapore’s heat and humidity, Cong Ngot’s Vietnamese Chendol (S$3.80) is a never-go-wrong selection with its familiar nutty fragrance, intriguing mix of textures and rich, milky mouthfeel.
Otherwise for maximum indulgence, get your hands on the eatery’s Vietnamese King Dessert. Priced at S$7.30, this has got to be Cong Ngot’s most extravagant dessert. Vietnamese classic elements like red rubies and jack fruit aside, this cup of delight is topped off with fresh durian paste, finished off with a generous serving of coconut milk that makes this dessert all the more luscious and heavenly!
Cold treats aside, Cong Ngot also offers warm bowls of comfort. For a taste of familiarity, opt for their Black Sweetness (S$3.80), a thick black bean soup with strips of jelly that, looks-wise, reminds me of my favourite bowl of pulut hitam.
Another bowl that intrigued me is their Milky Green (S$3.60), a sweet mung bean-based dessert bursting with flavour and health with each and every bite. To make things better, it is topped with a drizzle of thicken coconut cream to elevate the aroma and brilliance of the dish.
Cong Ngot’s menu might be rather lean but they sure are not stingy on their flavours. The unabashed generosity in coconut milk does conjure familiar flavours of traditional Singaporean sweet treats like kuih-kuih and chendol. As a sweet-tooth, I’m certainly not giving this unique dessert store a miss. Cong Ngot, I’m coming for you!
