Canned Cakes by Okashi Gaku: Viral Japanese cake-in-a-can trend makes its way to Singapore

Here comes yet another crazy food trend just when you think there can’t be any more. We all love the convenience of canned drinks and of course fresh, fluffy cakes. Who would’ve thought of bringing them two together? Now you get to stuff yourself with your favourite cakes on-the-go without the mess that usually comes with it. All the way from Japan, witness the advent of Canned Cakes by Okashi Gaku in Singapore from 16 Sep 2022.

These Canned Cakes work simple. You just pull the tab open like you would for any drink, and go at it to your heart’s content. The viral Japanese trend brings the vibe of sakura-filled summer to us, and its minimalist aesthetic is definitely pleasing to the eye. The clear fuwa cans allow you to know what’s exactly inside, which is an airy chiffon cake with layers of cream and other ingredients like fruit. You can also store them in the fridge and have it at your leisure, convenience being one of the top advantages of the product.

Their biggest best seller is the OG cake can with which the journey began. The Strawberry Shortcake Can (S$11.80) is a chiffon cake layered with Hokkaido’s summer strawberries and fresh whipped cream. They’ve also got the options of their signature flavours like Mango Passionfruit (S$9.80) and Strawberry (S$9.80). Simple but dreamy. Okashi Gaku, the brainchild behind this, is coming to Singapore with more exclusive, localised flavours like Matcha (S$8.80), Mango Chocolate (S$9.80), Tiramisu (S$9.80) and more. There’s also the Metal Can range with Egg Pudding (S$5.80). Don’t we all love our local!
