I’m sure many of us love some good affordable Taiwanese eats. If you frequent Chinatown Complex Food Centre, here’s a heads-up that Singapore’s largest hawker centre is slated to lose a Taiwanese gem come 30 Nov.
非同小可 Really Something was started by a solo hawker in 2020 and has, quite impressively, stayed that way up till now. 34-year-old Mr Li is a native Taiwanese who had 6 years of experience in our local restaurants before he decided to open his own hawker stall. He even returned to his home country for R&D to ensure the taste was kept authentic.
It was hence to much sorrow that news of Really Something’s closure was announced via Facebook on 15 Nov, citing rising rent and operational costs. At the same time, the stall will now be lowering prices to what they were in 2020.

Before the stall closes, you can enjoy a plate of Lu Rou Fan at just S$3 instead of S$4.50. The dish comes with braised pork belly and a whole egg drizzled with plenty of umami braised sauce. Expect the ultimate in Taiwanese comfort food at a fraction of the cost.
Similarly, Really Something’s Chiayi Chicken Rice has been lowered to S$3 from S$4. The bowl of rice with shredded chicken is topped with shallot oil, fried shallots and spring onions. Make sure you mix everything to evenly distribute the flavours if you order this.
The Fried Chicken Cutlet with Egg Fried Rice also receives a marked reduction from S$6 to S$4.80.
In response to Netizens’ comments on his Facebook post, Mr Li expressed interest in reopening if given the chance. Perhaps there may be a chance yet to see this affordable Taiwanese stall open elsewhere.
