The shutters of the famous Soon Li Yong Tau Foo have been closed for the longest time. Recently, the news of their reopening sparked an internet uproar— the long wait for the reopening of the infamous stall has finally reached a halt!

Yes, this is the yong tau foo stall infamous for the uptight aunty that scolds and screams at her customers. You can’t blame her though, the crowds that hover around the popular stall must be hard to manage.

They are known for their strange opening hours in the wee hours of the night from 12am to 3am. Despite this odd timing, they still manage to attract an immense crowd. I’ve read many reviews about how stressful it is to queue at this stall. If you thought the aunty was intimidating, the kiasu Singaporeans queueing here are much scarier.
Once the Covid-19 pandemic hit in 2020, the stall closed without a sound. The hawker centre that was usually packed like sardines suddenly became a ghost town.

Hence, people started probing about their closure. Questions about the public’s favourite yong tau foo stall kept coming in but there were no answers.
Shortly after, we found out that the stall uncle did not want to operate under the restrictions of the pandemic. That would’ve caused him more trouble and discomfort when cooking with a mask in a hot kitchen.

A Facebook post uploaded on 12 Jan 2023 announced their opening, as a netizen noticed a congratulatory flower stand outside the stall with a note that stated “congratulations on your opening”. This sparked another episode of excitement as it assured the public that their regular yong tau foo stall was not permanently closed.
Those that have been waiting, please continue waiting in line as per before.

I am sure that many of you have missed your midnight yong tau foo fare. Clubbing or supper fanatics can now head back to their supper “abode” for a delicious bowl of peppery soup and crispy pork belly. Known for having an unusual spread of items from regular stalls, they have a number of seafood items and fried items which garners its popularity.
Apparently, the stall owners have pushed forward their opening hours as compared to before. Like before, no one knows their exact opening hours, because it is dependent on the mood of the hawkers. However, some customers have been queuing from 9pm onwards, so be sure to head over early to try your luck and maybe you’d get a bowl!
Wishing you a shun li (smooth sailing) journey at Soon Li Yong Tau Foo.
