New in town: Three Point Two, Kampong Bahru — Cafe for your midnight gelato cravings

At the end of a long day, sometimes all we yearn for is a sweet treat while we unwind with a new flick. Yet there are some days, even digging trenches out of a pint of Ben & Jerry’s Netflix & Chill’d doesn’t cut it. For a breath of fresh air, away from the city bustle that is Singapore, head down to Three Point Two, a newly opened hangout at Kampong Bahru that welcomes gelato lovers and night owls till 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. Three Point Two is a metonymy for 3.2°F (-16°C)—the best temperature to keep gelato fresh, which they pride themselves in.

A stark contrast to most cafes with minimalist colour palettes, Three Point Two boasts a bubblegum blue-and-pink interior, which somehow reminds us of candy floss. However, they specialise in a flavour that’s at the opposite end of the aesthetic spectrum—durian. Three Point Two is the brainchild of the people behind Pang Zi Durian in Jurong West, who took a few years to perfect the art of their signature Mao Shan Wang Gelato (S$6 for a single scoop, S$9.50 for a double scoop)

They have a mouth-watering assortment of gelato from fruity, floral to milkier flavours. A scoop of refreshing Watermelon Mint or Honey Lavender would be a great saviour to the relentless scorching heat of Singapore, while floral lovers would be enticed by Chrysanthemum and Lychee Rose. Blue Vanilla and Black Sesame are recommended, with creamy textures that don’t disappoint. Classic flavours go at S$4 for a single scoop and S$7.50 for double scoops, while Premium flavours are an additional dollar for each scoop.

If you’re a fan of having cones as your usual conduit for this icy dessert, try not to be too disappointed. Cones may be unavailable here, but you can have your balls of gelato rest on a warm bed of waffleplain (S$5.50) or chocolate (S$6), sprinkled with powdered sugar, or on a fluffy gelato bun (S$4)

Not feeling like gelato? There’s a treasure trove for those who love the King of Fruits, made with premium D24 durian flesh. Indulge in their Durian Puffs (S$10.90 for 10 pieces, S$30 for 30 pieces) and Durian Mochi (S$10 for four pieces, S$55 for 24 pieces) that you can pop in your mouth as a convenient and palatable snack. Their Durian Mousse (S$5.50) features a smooth and creamy texture that coats your tongue with richness without being cloying with sugar. These are just a few, to begin with, and you can uncover other durian desserts, food, and coffee in the trove when you make your way down to the cafe.
