Haji lane is Singapore’s original indie neighbourhood, the home to many boutique shops, and hip cafes, and an extremely popular spot for both locals and tourists alike. Toast Days, a new cafe that opened on 27 September 2022 aims to challenge that demographic by standing out from the crowd. They offer traditional local delights and Nanyang coffee on their menu.
The founders are a group of foodies who have always considered toast and kopi as an integral part of their diet. Their vision is to allow tourists from all around the globe to try this intangible culinary culture and experience our local lifestyle that’s close to our hearts.
With a comfortable and relaxed old-fashioned setting, the commissioned drawing on the cafe’s wall is done by local artist Tiffany Yao.
It transports locals back to the days where toast and kopi were made on the stove top. For tourists, it gives them a glimpse of the good old days of Singapore’s food scene.
Their breakfast menu features a variety of Toast (S$5 for à la carte) and French Toast (S$6.80 for à la carte), in flavours like traditional kaya, peanut butter, nutella, kaya butter, blueberry and even my childhood favourite; butter sugar!
Both of them can be upgraded into a Toast Set (S$7.80 for toast, S$9.80 for french toast), which includes two soft-boiled eggs and a drink.
If you’re looking for something more substantial, they serve Curry Chicken with Rice (S$11.80) and Singapore Fried Rice with Omelette (S$11.80) with a choice of shrimp, chicken satay or fish otar.
For dessert, they offer Traditional Pandan Waffles (S$11.50) with flavours like kaya and blueberry, served with 2 scoops of assorted ice cream. They even have Ice Kacang (S$8.80) that’ll help cool you down after walking the streets of Haji Lane.
