New in Town: Yu Huang Premium Seafood Soup, Taman Jurong — Premium hawker seafood served by ex-Canton Paradise chef

Normally, one would normally head down to kopitiams to have a quick and simple meal without much fuss. Hence, not many would expect to discover premium seafood options like the ones Yu Huang Premium Seafood Soup serves up. Owner Hoong Boon Foo has only opened his stall in March 2022, yet it is already attracting plenty of customers.

When it comes to experience, it is something that Chef Hoong has plenty of.

He has worked for prestigious restaurants like Michelin-star recipient Putien for two years and the popular Canton Paradise for four years. With that, he even became the head chef of their Star Vista outlet. After leaving the brand in March, he decided to open his very own hawker stall.

His stall is very well known for its Cantonese broth, which is boiled with old chicken and pork bone for more than four hours. This achieves that iconic rich and “milky” consistency in the soup that complements the fresh seafood perfectly.

It is important to note how you shouldn’t be expecting to pay typical kopitiam prices here. While Yu Huang Premium Seafood Soup is indeed on the pricier side— with its dishes being priced from S$5 to S$38— one must account for how the food you are getting is made with high quality ingredients.

Diners will be able to choose one type of seafood to go along with Cabbage Soup or Minced Meat Soup. For example, you can go for its Lala Minced Meat Soup (S$6.90) or Lala Soup (S$5), which comes with cabbage, or its Dory Fish Minced Meat (S$7.90) or Dory Fish Soup (S$6) with cabbage.

You also have the choice of their Seafood Soup, which consists of prawns, lala and minced meat. Prices for this category depend on your choice of seafood— for example, its Dory Seafood Soup cost S$11 while its Giant Grouper Sliced Fish Seafood Soup cost S$14.

Not only that, the set also comes with a choice of a main. This includes Porridge, Paofan, Fragrance Rice and Thick Bee Hoon at an additional cost of S$0.50. Additionally, you can also opt for their Ramen or Pumpkin Rice for an extra S$1.

Of course, Yu Huang Premium Seafood Soup offers an extensive range of premium seafood items. One of their most iconic catches would be their Batang Sliced Fish Seafood Soup (S$13), which are freshly sourced from a farm in Indonesia. Also, their Giant Grouper Sliced Fish Seafood Soup (S$14) is worth a shout too.

For additional indulgence, you can also opt for seafood add-ons at varying prices. This ranges from toppings like additional prawns and half-shell scallops at S$3 per serving, as well as Giant Grouper Sliced Fish (S$7) and Giant Grouper Fish Head (S$10).
