Until a week ago, customers were still sharing photos of their plates of Western food from Happy Chef Western Food near Crawford Lane on Google Reviews. However, you’ll now see a piece of paper stuck on the signboard, indicating that the stall is permanently closed and available for rent.

The Western stall was once situated in the same coffee shop that housed the famous MICHELIN-starred Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle (pictured below).

In 2020, the owners of the stall decided to relocate due to the issue of customers from the neighbouring stall occupying all the available seats.

I distinctly recall being surprised a couple of years ago when I couldn’t locate the Western stall and feared it had shut down. Fortunately, my worries were put to rest when I discovered that they had simply moved to a new location, just one block away at 465 Food Court.

It’s known that the senior chefs have finally thrown in the towel and can now look forward to a well-deserved retirement after many years of hard work.

The Chicken Schnitzel (S$7.50) was loved by loyal customers, who appreciated its generous portion size. This dish typically consists of a piece of meat that has been pounded thin, dusted with flour, dipped in egg wash, coated with breadcrumbs, and then fried to perfection.

The old-school Western stall also had Chicken Kiev (S$12), which leaned towards a chicken cordon bleu, typically stuffed with ham and cheese. During my culinary school training, I made this classic dish and it certainly is not the easiest, in terms of food preparation.

The closure of Happy Chef Western Food will undoubtedly deprive the residents in the vicinity of Lavender MRT of a wonderful dining option for savouring delectable Western cuisine.

Let’s all wish the owners a happy retirement and good health.
