New in town: Anna’s — Sourdough-based cafe with hearty sourdough pastas and pizzas

Bread (namely white bread) is probably one of the most unhealthy sources of carbs around. A much healthier alternative would be sourdough bread— ah, if only we had a sourdough-forward cafe. Actually, we do! Anna’s is a new sourdough-based cafe launched on 22 Oct 2022 along Punggol Drive.

Anna’s is the brainchild of The Soup Spoon founder, Anna Lim, who thought of the concept at the height of the pandemic when she sought solace in the familiarity of the kitchen. This eventually led her to sourdough-making. The deeper she ventured into it, the more dishes she created that focused on the health-giving benefits of sourdough. 

It came to a point where she was even taking sourdough nutrition and digestibility diploma course from The Sourdough School in 2021.

That same enthusiasm has translated into a generous menu of hearty and healthy dishes. This includes Forest Forager Sourdough Pizza (S$32) topped with maitake mushrooms, shimeji mushrooms, mozzarella cheese, truffle cheese sauce, parmesan cheese and arugula.

There are also sourdough-based pastas such as Red Sea Prawn Aglio Olio (S$32) made with fresh sourdough pasta, chilli padi and prawns, and the Italian Meatballs (S$22).

All sourdough loaves are baked daily using freshly milled flour. Sourdough purists can opt for Anna’s take on grilled cheese which includes Grilled Cheese Toastie (S$16) and Grilled Kimcheese Toastie (S$17) both served with tomato bisque.
