Sixth Avenue No Named Chef recently opened its stall at Sixth Eating House on Sixth Avenue on Jul 21.

Many associate the neighbourhood with posh, expatriate-centric amenities – a fair assessment given the area’s luxurious residential estate.

While there is merit in that notion, as you make your way along the stretch from Sixth Avenue station, it quickly becomes clear that even amid such ‘uppity’ grandiose, there is still affordable food to be found.

Sixth Avenue No Named Chef might not have a catchy ring to it, but their simple menu will draw your attention all the same. Local favourite wok hei dishes are present with a Malaysian-style twist, from both white and black carrot cake (S$3.90) to char kway teow (S$4.90).

Most outstanding perhaps is their XO Carrot Cake (S$4.90), a dish uniting the seafood-ey umami flavours of XO sauce with the chunky bits of savoury carrot cake.

Their fragrant fried rice is also available with pork cutlet, chicken cutlet, fish cutlet or shrimp at S$5.50. All dishes can be topped up with fried egg (S$0.80) and more cutlets at S$2.50 each.

For the spice-hungry, you can run with XO/Tom Yum fried rice (S$5.50) and opt for tom yum to get a zesty, spice-scented meal. As a bonus, adding on a cutlet only amounts to S$7.60.

To get your orders hassle-free, you can arrange for pick-up or drive-through by their number on whatsapp.

Next time you’re in the area and trying to keep your wallet intact, head down to Sixth Eating House to give Sixth Avenue No Named Chef’s Malaysian wok hei flavours a try.
