I’ll be honest. Cafes are a dime a dozen in this lion city. Pretty splashes of ice cream waffles and colourful iced lattes are all too common on your Instagram explore page. While it’s become difficult to keep track of all the latest cafe openings, SOD Cafe manages to catch my eye.

This isn’t a new face in the biz. SOD has helmed its first outlet in Hougang for three years now, and it promises the best of all things delicious and wallet-friendly at its new space in Upper Thomson. Here’s an interesting fact—this cafe started out as a bubble tea shop in Yew Tee. It then expanded into a full-fledged cafe and as they say, the rest is history.

It isn’t all rags to riches though. SOD Cafe remains a proud purveyor of all things bubble tea, and customers can expect the same boba options at their second outlet. But onto the food, shall we? In the spirit of all things brunch, there’s a flurry of waffles and toasts on the menu here, and each one offers a hearty, satisfying mix of ingredients on a plate.

There’s the Waffles With Scrambled Eggs & Candied Bacon (S$12.90), a sweet-salty combination to perk up your lazy Saturday brunches. I’d spring for this in a heartbeat whenever I’m feeling hungry and in need of some guilty indulgence.

Elsewhere, SOD Cafe’s Eggs Benny on Brioche Bun (S$13.90) presents a plate of creamy, runny yolks all empowered by a housemade hollandaise and soft bread. Garden greens sit by the side, so mum doesn’t scold you for not eating your veggies.

Moving away from the all-day brunch side of things, here’s a duo of seafood to spice things up. A platter of Fish and Chips (S$15.90) comes adorned with tubs of buttercream corn and shoestring fries. The choice of fish here is the red snapper, providing a firm, fresh bite amidst all that crispy goodness.

If deep-fried isn’t your thang, go for the Mushroom Cream Pan Seared Snapper (S$15.90), which presents the same snapper fillet fragrantly pan-fried and drenched in a lip-smacking mushroom cream fondue. There’s little not to love here, and I reckon that fish lovers would be utterly spoilt for choice.

This only scrapes the surface of the offerings at SOD Cafe’s new outlet, where there is a myriad of other menu items to whet your appetite. Remember this when you’re looking for a great choice for friends and family alike.
