Tiong Bahru houses several vibey restaurants, well known-bakeries and famed hawker spots. The neighbourhood is truly a gem and I must admit my envy towards those living in the vicinity. Unfortunately, come 30 Jul 2023, super hawker Old Tiong Bahru Bak Kut Teh will be shutting down.

The closure is due to personal reasons which the owner has decided to not make public. She has already arranged for another business to take over the rental space. The once bustling coffee shop store which still sees constant long queues will soon be gone.
Old Tiong Bahru Bak Kut Teh is known for their comforting bowls of Premium Pork Ribs Soup (S$13.25). It consists of pork ribs stewed in a deep-flavoured broth filled with pepper.

Fit to be eaten at any time of the day, the steaming hot soup is an experience in itself. Fans love how the soup broth is not too oily but tastes almost refreshing to simply slurp up!
To complete every bak kut teh meal, I usually order their Salted Vegetable (S$4.80), You Tiao (S$1.60) and Mee Sua (S$2.35). When eaten together, each bite contains a burst of savoury goodness and layers of texture. I also love throwing in some thick but airy fried dough stick pieces into the boiling soup. They are the perfect sponges to soak up all that herby broth.

Besides these usual must-get items, several unique side dishes are well-loved by customers, too. Many love their take on the Half Fried Cooked Fish (S$32.10) which is large enough to share among 3 pax. Otherwise, smaller items include the braised Bitter Gourd (S$4.80) and Tang O Soup (S$4.30).
Hurry down till 30 Jul 2023 to grab the last few portions of their famed bak kut teh broth and perfectly cooked side dishes!
