I’ve always been glad that I live in the Central area of Singapore, because it means that a trip down to explore the myriad of eateries in Bugis requires only a 20-minute bus ride. Opening its doors (or window, in this case) is the brand new Tarik Cafe, a humble teh-k away shop situated along the stretch of predominantly textile shops on Arab Street, away from the other F&B eateries that are concentrated on the bustling Bussorah Street.
This shop is impossible to miss if you’re walking by—Tarik Cafe sports a pretty blue and white exterior, where the owner will be pulling piping hot teh tarik with deceiving ease. The shop is aptly named, for customers will have a selection of different teas and light bites to choose from when strolling or driving by on a hot afternoon.
However, if you’re like me, and have more caffeine in your bloodstream than blood, Tarik Cafe also offers Teh In A Box. Each compact to-go box contains around 2.8 litres of tea, which means that you’ll be perfectly armed when beating the afternoon slump. Take your pick from The Original Chai (Teh Tarik) (S$30), Tandoori Chai (Teh Masala) (S$33), and my personal go-to whenever I’m indulging in a late night prata supper, Ginger Chai (Teh Halia) (S$32).
If you’re feeling peckish, Tarik Cafe also offers some light bites to tide you over until dinnertime—satisfy your sweet tooth cravings with Baklava Rings (price TBA), or indulge in something savoury like their Kaya Butter Buns (price TBA). They also have Nasi Sambal Goreng (S$5), which is available in both chicken and rendang, to tapau home, perfect for pairing with a hot cup of teh halia. I’m definitely speaking from experience with this one.
